Through our partnership with Sussex Police and the National Linking Lives Befriending Charity we have worked collaboratively to identify areas across the County of Sussex where there are a) high numbers of older people considered to be living alone or in isolation and b) areas where SCAM fraud is prevalent among the older population. As a result of this work, we identified that Adur and Worthing is one of the 5 key areas of need within the County so throughout 2017 we are developing a ‘Older People’s Community Befrienders’ pilot.

The aim of the pilot is to work alongside the existing and well-established Charity ‘Guildcare’ ( to identify 10-15 older people who would benefit from being matched with a volunteer befriender for much needed company and friendship. Between April 2017 – January 2018 we will be looking to recruit volunteers who have a heart for older people so that we can carefully match them with an elderly scheme member who they would visit every week or every fortnight. Through our work in Brighton and Hove we have witnessed first hand how befriending can literally transform lives so we are excited to monitor and evaluation the progress of the pilot with a view to launching fully in 2018.

Watch this space for further details about our plans in 2018.
